3 Doors Down - Here Without You

This Blog

Hello and welcome to my blog.

I am a forty-something from Western Kentucky.  A father of a beautiful daughter and husband to a beautiful wife.   I have worked in the information technology field for almost a quarter century now. Name it and I most likely have done it from mainframe operations, desktop support, network support, web development, application development, to software support.  I hold multiple certifications as well.   Currently I work for a major bank data processor where I have been employed for over a decade now.

I found out last year that I have Multiple Sclerosis and major Migraines which unfortunately have kept me from enjoying my hobbies.   When I am not under the weather I enjoy playing PC video games.  I usually focus on strategy games be they turn based or real time.  I also have a level 100 of each class in Warcraft and play Overwatch when I feel up to it.

I used to enjoy 5/10k races however just prior to my daughter being born I was in a bicycle accident that took a long time for me to recover from and due to neck and shoulder pains I quit running.  My daughter has followed in my footsteps though and is running in races now so at least I can live vicariously through her.

Years ago I got into Square Foot Gardening and even had my gardens featured in a couple magazines back in 2003.  My parents own a greenhouse business and have done so since before I was born so I guess I have some inherited green thumb traits.   I keep waiting to have a moss/fern garden, maybe one of these days soon I will do so.   While primarily my parents raise bedding plants, I have always enjoyed house plants and shrubs the most.

I enjoy programming though I prefer small projects.  I first started coding in the mid 80s on a Commodore 64  before quickly moving on to a 286 XT when my father bought one right after they came out.  The first PC I owned on my own was an 8088.  I started programming in BASIC on the C64 but moved to Turbo Pascal on the PC.  Over the years I have bounced around between various languages like most coders do.  I prefer VB.NET for quick application development.  I still lean towards PHP when I do web development along with some Javascript.  I use C and Python when I am developing code for controllers like Audrino and PI.

I believe strongly in the Constitution and a firm supporter of the 2nd Amendment.    I consider myself a conservative libertarian.  I am currently a firm #NeverTrump / #NeverHillary voter.
